How climate change adaptation produces inequality

According to Asia's fact sheet from IPCC (2022) , cyclones, floods, and typhoons have displaced 9.6 million in South, Southeast, and East Asia in 2019, or about 30% of total global displacement. This phenomenon will worsen as IPCC found that climate change in the form of rising temperature increases the floods in monsoon regions like Southeast Asia. Together with the heat stress, the fact shows that surges will highly likely harm food availability, resulting in undernourishment. In 2020, the floods combined with sea-level rise had increased the risk of 30,522 lives in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Jakarta (Indonesia), and Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam). Furthermore, an additional 10,830 people will also be at high risk in 2035 (IPCC, 2022) . Australia Safeguard Mechanism’s Impacts on Economy

Executive Summary Australia sets a target to reduce emissions from 621 MtCO 2 -e in 2005 to 354 MtCO 2 -e in 2030 (DCCEEW, 2022a) . However, under the current effort, it is probable that Australia will emit 390 MtCO 2 -e in 2030 (DCCEEW, 2022b) . As deeper cut is fundamentally required, the Albanese government has just reformed the safeguard mechanism to further pressure the carbon emitters business to adhere closely to the Australia’s goal by strictly limit their caps. To achieve the national goal, it is expected that the new emission cap will be progressively tighten at least 4.9% per year (DPMC, 2023) .
