Era of Competition

Over the last century the world has witnessed inequality in some life aspects such as economy, education, and physical development. The politican endeavour has largerly provided policies in order to address this crisis. Undoubtedly, the government of first world countries should share the responsibility of helping less fortunate nations. The economy crisis of Indonesia in 1998 for instance, the IMF of the World Bank offered an economic avalanche of debt to stabilize the nation wealth in which it would help to reduce the inflation. Due to continuous crisis growth, Indonesia had no other option. Back in 1950s, when the Ducth flag was embed in West Papua. The issue related in taking over the Papua had sparked debates and war among both nations. According to the past culture and commerce, West Papua was considered as part of East Indonesia. The American through United Nation backed up Indonesia in tackling the Ducth. Consequently, Indonesia should give the gold mining to Rockeller Foundation in return.

Albeit at a cost in return, the cited evidences provide strong support for the view that helping the less well off nation is a good thing. With the prosperity endowed on such rich countries, their intellectual knowledge and modern technology, ultimately every problem comes to an end. Commerce is without doubt the most essential type of assistance that can be given. The poor countries have the opportunity to develop trade and be the most targeted market. These strength conducives investors to employ local people and largely encourage the government to decise a policy which support such an opportunity to improve the lives of billions.

Nowadays, youth development programs surge in popularity. This pedadogy was initiated by the Ministry of Youth and Sport after triggered by 52% of the youth had no interest in public policy, 9 years of reformation. The engagement students are considerably being taught to advance enterpreunership. Making business analysist compulsory will most likely improve the outcome of living skill. This is borne out by a study completed at the Business School of ITB which demonstrated that overall creativity in capitalizing goods increased dramatically. In addition, the Government provides policy which easily allowing an industry establisment such as abolish the environmental assessment and a year free of tax. Due to this investment, it increase competition and shift the youth’s emphasis to be CEO of a, founder of b, and others business start up.

The World Bank has just released the Great Plan of Economy in Indonesia. Firstly to do in order to maintain the economy is simplify the rigid labor regulation so companies can improve their productivity. Indonesia’s labor laws are cited by World Bank as a reason which holds back investment and ease of doing business ranks. The middle class must commit in contributing to tax. Indonesia has 39 million listed tax payers. This is low and those who pay are even lower. They even must equip themselves with technical and soft skills then ensure better public service. Luckily within tight time, the local government ensures the plan by decising a new regulation called Law and releasing the Card of Pre-Work. With these new obligation, the government offers flexible and cheap labor in which it will reduce the poverty due to many job opportunities.

Constitution Study Center of Airlangga University, Charles Simabura said that the new regulation is market oriented. Labor prosperity is being questioned. It encourages job offers without certain time work, salary, or even work contract. On the other hand, Secretary of Industry Labor Union, Ikhsan Raharjo, put on mind that Omnibus Law is modern slavery. 52% of job seeker have no idea about the new regulation. Furthermore, the Card of Pre-Work has provided private sector to capitalize education by offering courses training such as free online courses and paid certificate of Skill Academy provided by Ruang Guru. Hopefully the middle class can afford the skills through this card vigorously in order to fullfill their commitment as the World Bank planned. But the Finance Minister, Sri Mulyani revealed that people with higher income tend to not pay taxes. In 2019, the tax income from private individuals were Rp 11.23 trillion whereas the employees or workers had paid Rp 148.63 trillion, 13 times higher than CEOs and founders! What a wicked gap! So according to this undoubtedly fact, the middle class had a better contribution than the private industry sector.

More than a decade ago, Mayssoun Sukarieh and Stuart Tannock had ever assessed the aforementioned economy phenomenon. They called it as Neoliberaism, the new global youth empowerment project. The basic assumption of neoliberalism is putting the market as the main economy actor such as liberating the market in goods, service, investation, and modal without government intervention. This World Bank’s project encourages the decision makers to deregulate market policies which limit the market freedom and private the nation assets such as education and development. Providing the skills of employability for the youth will defuse radicalism and keep youth off the street when not in school (Zuckerman, 2000). The skill employability offered by Card of Pre-Work will be so valuable in order to support this neoliberalism project. The youth will compete one to another to fullfill the market demand. With the flexiblity of free market, they are dictated to be individualist. So the youth aren’t able to gather and unite collectively in order to prosecute the labor rights.

Indonesia inclines to join the World Bank due to its debt to IMF. The local government has nothing to do with youth development, it just merely need to facilitate the private sector to provide trainings such as management trainee, free online courses, and enterpreunership. Seen in this light, evidence above clearly explains a lot why the government did decise omnibus law and card of pre-work. Each of young generation has to be inspired by Belva or Andi (President’s Special Staff). It has been framed inside the youth that being a CEO or founder of something is considerably elite. Indonesia Mengajar for instance, a fresh graduate from reputable university is challenged to give a light in an outlying spot. He probably feels being honour to be given such an opportunity to teach. Certainly the local community are inspired of him and committed to educate themselves higher just alike Belva and Andi did to the youth. But actually, the SMERU Institute had conducted a research and conculded that 87% of poor-born will stay poor. It is just a matter of privilege. So, does RuangGuru educate the youth? Throughout SkillAcademy provided by RuangGuru, it offers employability skills in order to fullfill the market demand.

How climate change adaptation produces inequality

According to Asia's fact sheet from IPCC (2022) , cyclones, floods, and typhoons have displaced 9.6 million in South, Southeast, and East Asia in 2019, or about 30% of total global displacement. This phenomenon will worsen as IPCC found that climate change in the form of rising temperature increases the floods in monsoon regions like Southeast Asia. Together with the heat stress, the fact shows that surges will highly likely harm food availability, resulting in undernourishment. In 2020, the floods combined with sea-level rise had increased the risk of 30,522 lives in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Jakarta (Indonesia), and Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam). Furthermore, an additional 10,830 people will also be at high risk in 2035 (IPCC, 2022) . In Indonesia, the destructive impacts of climate change on the coastal sector, sea-level rise, will be responsible for 70.82% of the potential economic loss in 2024 for approximately 5.45 billion USD (National Development Planning Agency, 2019) . The most ...

Australia Safeguard Mechanism’s Impacts on Economy

Executive Summary      Australia sets a target to reduce emissions from 621 MtCO 2 -e in 2005 to 354 MtCO 2 -e in 2030 (DCCEEW, 2022a) . However, under the current effort, it is probable that Australia will emit 390 MtCO 2 -e in 2030 (DCCEEW, 2022b) . As deeper cut is fundamentally required, the Albanese government has just reformed the safeguard mechanism to further pressure the carbon emitters business to adhere closely to the Australia’s goal by strictly limit their caps. To achieve the national goal, it is expected that the new emission cap will be progressively tighten at least 4.9% per year (DPMC, 2023) .      The mechanism is criticized as a ‘toothless tiger’ since emissions from fossil fuels-related industries ironically grow up (ACF, 2022) . Since 2005, the sectoral emission trends in stationary energy, transport, and fugitives have increased 27.4%, 13.2%, and 14.1%, respectively due to continued growth of production and export...

Timor, A Global South within Global South

Beta percaya refleksi tu bagian dari co-production of knowledge . So, this is my reflection of my latest six-month research in Timor. What is a global south? Firstly, let’s talk about what planning is .
